Managers have feelings too

Leadership and management is no longer about targets and performance, I think we can all agree with that. It has been long since recognised that we need to care for our staff as much as we do our patients. I truly believe that on the whole this happens, however, there is so much more we can do.

The NHS is one of the largest employers in the country, when will we begin to really focus on our workforce's mental health and enable our managers to work in a 'safe space' free from judgement and expectation but full of support, care, consideration and compassion.

We all have bad days, we all have amazing days - we need to recognise 1 in 1 not 1 in 4 and we must adapt with the society around us.

We have an fantastic opportunity to really change the culture of the NHS to be supportive and watch as we demonstrate what a truly well-led organisation can look like... the impact on patients, service users and carers would be phenomenal!
