Talk Health and Care

Fair Pay

The ability to pay our care workers fairly is obstructed by how home care is commissioned.  We do not ask our police or fire service to be at work for 12 hours but only actually pay them when they have to respond to a crime or fire.  We do not ask our nurses to be at work for 12 hours and only pay them for the time they actually deliver care to patients.  Yet it seems to be acceptable that this is how we pay our care workers in homecare,  it is a nonsense.  It is time to change, it is time for the government to lead the way, it is time we valued our homecare workforce in every way. Matt Hancock can you provide some funding to pilot a new way of commissioning homecare and measure the impact on recruitment, retention, quality, value for money etc?
